Hi for the building details I have decided to the Kredik Shaw it is from the book Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. 

The description is:

The lord Ruler's palace loomed like some kind of massive, multi-spined insect. 

On the wiki I found: 

The Hill of a Thousand Spires. Many ominous towers with large spires of metal on the top.

Here are a few ideas I have been working with so far.  I am trying to emphasize the insect and ominous looks.  I still need to work on the perspective on a few of them.
